Valencia City Guide - June 22, 2010 by Miles Woolgar

Fly to Valencia by private jet charter

Valencia is beautiful historic city in Spain that is certainly well worth a visit. To fly there by private jet charter it only takes a few hours. In size and importance this is actually the third city of the country. For everyone coming to the city to enjoy the Formula 1 Grand Prix or to just take a long weekend Valencia has loads to offer. Valencia is situated on the coast of the Mediterranean four hours south of Barcelona and three hours east of Madrid.

Valencia is a part of Spain as well as being a province of Spain. In Muslim hands for five centuries, its Christian European history has been shaped as much by Catalonia, its neighbour towards the north, as by Castilla. The region’s flag bears the red and yellow stripes of Catalonia, additionally the native language for many is Valenciano, a dialect of Catalan.

Festivals of Valencia
Valencia is known for its Fallas Festival in March, being the birthplace of paella, for hosting the “America’s Cup”, and for the massive architectural project by Santiago Calatrava called The City of Arts and Sciences. Valencia’s festivals attract a great deal of tourists. The carnivals in February have that unique touch that only a city like Valencia with its cosmopolitan outlook can offer. The Holy Week and Easter celebrations are well attended by both locals and tourists. The festival of Corpus Christi is another religious celebration that’s a keynote in the tourist itinerary. One festival that every tourist can take part in is the ‘Tomato Warfare’ or ‘Guerra de los Tomatoes’ that occurs in summer in Bunol. All you need to participate is a white T-shirt along with a sense of fun while you dodge the tomatoes which are thrown at you and throw by you.

Valencia’s Places of Interest
Massive construction and transformation over the last ten years have turned a once little considered medium city into a larger town and even more interesting destination. There had been a river running through the centre of the city, however the river was redirected quite some time back and replaced by a beautiful park. It is a very nice place to spend any free time you might have in the city on a sunny day. Every tourist going to Valencia should go to the City of Arts and Science, a complex that houses a planetarium, a marine world or oceanographic park and the Queen Sophia Palace of Arts. Other attractions really worth a try include the Palace of Justice along with the Palace of Music.

Valencia’s Museums
Valencia has many interesting museums and the best are the ones focused upon history and archaeology. You can visit the Natural Sciences Museum, the Museum of Archaeology, the City Museum and the favourite Museum of Bullfighting. A trip to anyone of these museums is definitely an experience that you’re going to remember for years.

Historic Valencia
Some interesting sites that should not be missed are the old University of Valencia, the historic Port of Valencia, the Sea Bridge that was constructed over 400 years ago and still stands and also the historic City Hall of Valencia which has witnessed the upheavals of centuries. Sagunto, a town which was built by the Romans nearly 2000 years ago, retains some interesting examples of Roman architecture.

Valencia’s Old Quarter
It’s possible to take time off to stroll through the city’s old quarter and its historic plaza. The famous 19th century Valencia bull-ring is nearby and you can look at the place that features prominently inside novels of one of Spain’s major writers, Jose Blasco Ibañez.

Local Resorts
Despite standing on the Mediterranean Sea, Valencia has always lived with its back to the sea, meaning that the heart and soul of the people are not deeply integrated with the sea. The city centre and the most visited tourist areas aren’t near the sea.

In 2005 around five million overseas visitors chose the Comunidad Valenciana (Valencia region) as their holiday destination. Most descend upon the resorts on the thin coastal strip, where they stay put – except, perhaps, for a day trip to Valencia City. The more enterprising rent a bike or car, leave behind the coastal hedonism and explore the region’s rich interior.

The Valencia coastline is nearby and you can take a short trip to nearby resorts like Benidorm, Alicante or Ibiza and enjoy the white sand beaches, the water sports and the many world-class restaurants that serve the needs of an endless number of tourists each year.

Fly to the Turkish Grand Prix by private jet - May 17, 2010 by Miles Woolgar

Istanbul is a really happening place at the best of times but when F1 comes to town things start to hot up. The race itself is held at Istanbul Park in the Akfirat district just east of Istanbul. The course was introduced into the F1 season in 2005 and since then it has gone from strength to strength. Flying to the Grand Prix by private jet will start your holiday and get you there relaxed and on time.

Istanbul has a reputation for being exciting and fascinating. There are cool bars and restaurants, clubs and galleries as well as amazing Ottoman mosques. Historically the city used to be known as Byzantium and Constantinople. The city straddles both sides of the Bosporus with one “foot” in Europe and the other in Asia. Istanbul’s geo-political location has made the city a magnet for international commerce, culture, and diplomacy.Istanbul F1 Grand Prix by private jet charter

Istanbul has numerous historic markets such as the Grand Bazaar (1461), Mahmutpaşa Bazaar (1462) and the Egyptian Bazaar (1660). Today there are also a plethora of modern malls such as İstinye Park and City’s Nişantaşı which target high-end consumers and are almost exclusively dedicated to haute culture brands.

If you plan to eat out in Istanbul your choices are great. You can either try traditional Turkish restaurants or  go for European or Oriental cuisine. This is very much an international city so there are restaurants to suite all tastes. Another option is to visit a winehouse or pub located in Beyoğlu. For those who like fish you are in for a treat. Istanbul is famous for its sea food restaurants. The best of these can be found along the shores of the Bosphorus and Marmara Sea, towards the south of the city.

Fly To Barcelona By Private Jet - April 15, 2010 by Miles Woolgar

Barcelona is perfect for a quick getaway. Should you be so lucky as to go why not think about flying to Barcelona by private jet? Below are some must see highlights of this interesting city.
Fly to Barcelona by private jet charter
Barcelona is the capital of Catalunya which is a fiercely independent autonomous community within Spain. The city has a vibrancy and panache of its own. The city is a Mediterranean port, Olympic host, a progressive metropolis and host to Formula 1.

The city sits between the Montjuic hills and the Mediterranean. Barcelona is well known for its outlandish art, haut culture and cuisine. If you walk down the main thorough fair, the Ramblas, you will see the bustling street life with loads of bars, restaurants and cafes. As you stroll up the avenue away from the sea and cobblestone streets of the old town you reach the wide boulevards of L’Eixample.

“Cosmopolitan” is a word that definitely describes the city. Barcelona is a real melting pot of nationalities, cultures, and language not only because of the diverse people who live there but also because of the many nationalities that visit the city each year.

Unlike the rest of Spain the Catalan people speak Catalan and Spanish. The difference is not only one of language but also regional identity. The Spanish influence is not so strong here so you will be hard pressed to see traditions such as flamenco dancing and bullfighting.

One truly unique aspect of Barcelona is the amazing ode to modernism in the form of Antoni Gaudi’s . During the latter parts of Gaudi’s life he worked on his church project – “The Expiatory Temple of the Holy Family”. Unfortunately for him he died in 1926 before it was completed. Construction on the unfinished structure resumed in the 1950s and continues to this day. Another area of the city that should not be overlooked is the impressive Gothic Quarter that contains medieval buildings within the old 4th century Roman walls.

Fly To Shanghai by Private Jet - April 15, 2010 by Miles Woolgar

This weekend sees the start of the Formula 1 race in Shanghai. For those lucky enough to visit this city here are some of the must see places.
Private Jet Charter to Shanghai
Shanghai is China’s largest city which draws people from all over the world for its history and oriental charm. The city has both modern and ancient architecture, such as the old Bund and ultra modern Pudong area.

Take a train to Suzhon and visit the Humble Administrator’s Garden. This classic Chinese garden is considered one of the finest in South China. Well spaced buildings, gardens and water views typify this Ming style garden. The largest of all the classic gardens in Suzhon, the Humble Administrator’s Garden has been passed down through several owners over the last 500 years until it finally became protected by the state.

Another site seeing must whilst in Suzhon is Tiger Hill. The hill looks like a crouching tiger so it is little wonder than it has been a popular place for visitors for hundreds of years. The hill is made up of impressive rocks and deep gullies which poets have written about throughout the ages.

A visit to Shanghai would be incomplete without a visit to China’s water town of Zhouzhuang. The town is situated within Kunshuan City of Jiangsu which is near both Suzhou and Shanghai. One might describe the place like a Chinese version of Venice, with all its narrow waterways with historic houses on either side. The houses are amazingly well preserved and are of the Ming and Qing styles.

If you don’t fancy travelling too far from Shanghai you can always visit the Shanghai museum. The eleven galleries packed full of ancient artefacts such as: bronze, sculpture, porcelain, ceramic, jade, calligraphy, paintings, coins and furniture.

Another must see is the Jade Buddha temple, established in 1882. The temple is made up of numerous areas such as the Halls of Heavenly Kings, the Hall of the Recumbent Buddha, the Main Hall and the Hall of Jade Buddha. You can also see paintings, sculptures and scripts.

Private Jet Charter To Kuala Lumpur - April 12, 2010 by Miles Woolgar

Flying to Kuala Lumpur for business or pleasure? Perhaps you are going there to watch the Formula One racing? If you are here’s a quick synopsis of the city.

Remember the advert: “Malaysia, truly Asia”? Kuala Lumpur (KL) is surely the epitome of this statement. The city was originally a tin-mining shanty town but today this modern metropolis is a monument to modernity. The skyline of this Asian tiger is dominated by some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world, paid for by international trade and commerce.

This city is a place of extremes in terms of culture and religion. Temples, malls and mosques stand by side each other in the hubbub of downtown KL. You can walk through bustling streets full of trader stalls selling anything from food to counterfeit DVDs and take time out for a cappuccino in a Wi-Fi enabled café.

KL is a real melting pot of cultural diversity consisting of ethnic Malays, Chinese, Indians and British, all of which have left their own footprint on the capital. If you are looking for night life, shopping and eating out then KL is definitely the place, but don’t forget there are other places of interests outside of the city such as parks and monuments that can easily be visited.

You can get to Malaysia by a variety of airliners but as you might have guessed we strongly recommend you go by private air charter. This will ensure a far pleasanter experience.

Finding Paradise in the Philippines - February 6, 2010 by Miles Woolgar
Laiya, Batangas, Philippines

Laiya, Batangas, Philippines

Article by Miles

When it comes to finding your perfect paradise in the sun most people in the UK think of probably Spain, Thailand, and the Caribbean – in reverse order of exclusivity. However, there is another alternative which is very easy to get to but many people often don’t even give it a second thought. The place is the Philippines, a place that I (Miles) often go to because I have family there.

Beatrice & Miles

Beatrice & Miles

Having just returned from the Philippines I thought I would do a little write up on a beautiful place by the sea called Laiya. There will be some of you who will find themselves travelling to the Philippines capital, Manila, on business. The good thing about Laiya is that it is only three hours south of Manila by car. You can also hire a private helicopter to get to the place.

Banka - fishing boat

Banka - fishing boat

My family and I stayed at a place called Laiya Coco Grove – http://www.laiyacocogrove.com/. The resort itself was very quiet, clean, and has a really nice views of the bay. The unique selling point of this resort is the tree house rooms. All of these come with air con and a fan, so you won’t fry in the hot weather.

Banka from under the water

Banka from under the water

There are many things to do at the resort. You can hire a banka [local boat] to go snorkelling or fishing. There are also some interesting walks around the area. My passion is fishing so I hired a kayak in an attempt to catch Dorado. Having tied down my fishing rod, fishing tackle box and water bag I rowed out for about just over a mile. Despite my efforts I finally gave up after five hours. The only thing I did catch was sun burn – unfortunately the large waves breaking over the bows washed off my suntan lotion.

Another plus about going on holiday in the Philippines is that the people are very hospitable and speak English. One evening we went for a walk along the beach to see what the other resorts looked like. When we arrived at Laiya White Cove Beach Resort –  http://www.laiyawhitecove.com/ we were welcomed by a group of about twelve people who called us over to have a drink with them. Three hours later and feeling a little worse for wear they all walked us back to our resort.
