Top Austrian Ski Resorts And Hotels

St. Anton

St Anton is has some of the world’s best off-piste skiing. The skiing region know as the Arlberg is made up of Lech, Zurs and several other villages. Thanks to an excellent snow record and challenging and varied terrain the Arlberg has a deserved high reputation.

Despite the attraction of the off-piste skiing this does not mean that St Anton is only for expert skiers. The Arlberg region has 200 miles of pistes, the majority of which are blue and red runs so there is plenty of the intermediate skiers.

Owing to the Arlberg ski School youth centre this ski resort is also attractive to families. If you are bringing your family it is best to stay at Nasserein which is close to the nursery slopes and away from the après ski activities of St Anon.

Raffl’s St. Antoner Hof

The Raffl’s St. Antoner Hof hotel is a 5 star luxury palace that has a style of its own. This cosy family owned hotel is a Raffl’s St. Antoner Hofsophisticated mix of the traditional and the contemporary. The familiar and friendly atmosphere makes you feel like you found a second home in the Tyrolean Mountains. The rooms and suites at ‘Raffl's St. Antoner Hof’ are definitely not ordinary. An enchanting interplay between layouts and interiors makes them stand out against conventional hotel rooms. Innsbruck

Innsbruck is probably the best known of the Austrian ski resorts. The place itself has a historic city centre with its own airport which means you can enjoy shopping and cultural delights and then be on the slopes in 20 minutes at Nordpark. Owing to the close proximity of the airport to the ski resorts Innsbruck is probably one of the best resorts for a short weekend break.

The old Olympic Winter SkiWorld is made up of 11 ski resorts so those staying for more than several days will have loads to do. If you are planning a short break it is best to stay near Innsbruck itself. The resorts of Mutters, Schlick 2000, Glungezer, Rangger Köpfel and Axamer Lizum are only four to twelve miles from the city and cater for all levels of skiers.

Hotel Seppl 4 Star

Innsbruck does not have any ideally situated 5 star resorts so instead we recommend Hotel Sepplthe Hotel Steppl because of its idyllic yet central location. The hotel enjoys beautiful panoramic view of the Inn Valley yet the city centre of Innsbruck is only 5 km away. As with many modern ski resorts this hotel successfully blends tradition and modernity. Unwind in the spacious spa and enjoy the culinary skills of the top chefs.

Lech & Zurs

If you want exclusivity and luxury then the two ski resorts of Lech and Zurs are probably the best resorts for you. Between them these two resorts have six five star and 49 four star hotels. Whilst other resorts in the world try to attract the wealthy through excessive glitz these two sister resorts have kept their dignity and avoided “over blinging” their towns.

Lech is the picture perfect Alpine village with its old snow clad chalets that line a meandering river through the town centre. Together with the dramatic backdrop of the mountains, the onion shaped dome of the church dominates the town. Appearances can be deceiving as within the picture postcard chalets are high class hotels, spars and restaurants.

Kristiana Lech Hotel

The Kristiana Lech is a small luxury hotel which is the brainchild of the Kristiana Lech HotelOlympic Gold medallist Othmar Schneider. The 29 bedrooms and suites are unique and stylish. Each room is in a category of its own as they all have a separate theme using contemporary artwork and antiques. This mix of modernity and tradition is the epitome of the Austrian Alpine style. The hotel has exceptional standards of service that encompass everything from private ski guide, ski valet, even a bath butler and a reading butler.

Ischgl

Ischgl offers a wide variety of skiing. The Sivretta region lift pass will give you access not only to Ischgl but also Gultur. This area has a whopping 330kms of pistes, amazing off-piste and some of the best snowboarding in the Alps.

If après-ski is more your thing then Ischgl is for you. Come night time this farming village under goes metamorphosis and becomes more like Ibiza on ice. In the Chalets are bars with Lederhosen clad staff that serve out huge steins of larger. IschglPeople mil along the streets past expensive boutiques and top of the range restaurants and hotels. The clink of Champaign glasses is drowned out by the distant throb of chart music.

As it gets late people move to the clubs, such as Pacha and Trofana Arena, and lap top joints. However, despite the raunchy clubs this resort remains sober and well behaved.

Hotel Trofana Royal

The Hotel Trofana Royal in Ischgl has picked up a plethora of awards. It is Austria’s only 5 star hotel to have the 3 Gault-Millau ‘toques’, a Michelin star and 3 Relax-Guide ‘Lillies’. Saalbach-Hinterglemm

Fifty miles south west of Salzburg are the villages of Saalbach and Hinterglemm which boast 125 miles of pistses, good restaurants and excellent lift systems. Saalbach is a traditional village but it still has a lively atmosphere.

The Saalbach valley has both north and south facing slopes and a long ridge that leads into Leogang. As 90% of the pistes are rated blue and red this place is best suited to novice and intermediate skiers.

Hinterglemm is great for families as it has self contained nursery slopes and hotels with crèches. The village of Leogang is popular with families because it is quieter and less expensive than its neighbours, Saalbach and Hinterglemm. Quieter however means fewer choices for après-ski.

Hotel Sonnleiten – in SaalbachHotel Sonnleiten

The Sonnleiten is an old Salzburg style hotel which has been around for the last 45 years. The accommodation is specifically aimed at families. The rooms come with either a bath or shower and a balcony on the south side that overlook Glemmtal. The location of the hotel is perfect as the ski slopes are just on your door step. You can swim in the indoor pool and still appreciate the views of the mountain panorama. The hotel also has a heated outdoor pool, sauna or heated infrared cabin where you can gently thaw out and detox.
