Whilst other resorts in the world try to attract the wealthy through excessive glitz these two sister resorts have kept their dignity and avoided “over blinging” their towns. Lech is the picture perfect Alpine village with its old snow clad chalets that line a meandering river through the town centre. Together with the dramatic backdrop of the mountains, the onion shaped dome of the church dominates the town. Appearances can be deceiving as within the picture postcard chalets are high class hotels, spars and restaurants. However, despite the raunchy clubs this resort remains sober and well behaved. Hotel Trofana Royal
The Hotel Trofana Royal in Ischgl has picked up a plethora of awards. It is Austria’s
only 5 star hotel to have the 3 Gault-Millau ‘toques’, a Michelin star and

Saalbach-HinterglemmFifty miles south west of Salzburg are the villages of Saalbach and Hinterglemm which boast 125 miles of pistses, good restaurants and excellent lift systems. Saalbach is a traditional village but it still has a lively atmosphere. The Saalbach valley has both north and south facing slopes and a long ridge that leads into Leogang. As 90% of the pistes are rated blue and red this place is best suited to novice and intermediate skiers. Hinterglemm is great for families as it has self contained nursery slopes and hotels with crèches. The village of Leogang is popular with families because it is quieter and less expensive than its neighbours, Saalbach and Hinterglemm. Quieter however means fewer choices for après-ski.
